Stress free dental care with delta dental insurnace

Azalea Dental is an in-network Delta Dental dentist that helps you maximize your insurance benefits for a range of services. Our team handles the complexities of claims and paperwork to ensure your care is affordable and seamless.

Delta Dental PPO vs. DeltaCare USA

Delta Dental actually offers a few different types of plans, and knowing which one you have is your first step to unlocking your benefits. The two most common are the Delta Dental PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) and DeltaCare USA (an HMO-style plan). At Azalea Dental, we are proud to be an in-network provider for most Delta Dental PPO plans. PPO plans offer you the greatest flexibility. They allow you to choose your own dentist without needing a referral from a primary care provider. If your ID card says “PPO” or “Premier,” you are in the right place. If you are unsure of what plan you have, feel free to call our Wilmington office or give us a visit. Our front desk team is expertly trained in navigating the complexities of insurance coverage, and we diligently work to be agents in your oral healthcare.

How to Maximize Your "100% Covered" Preventive Benefits Each Year

Most Delta Dental PPO plans follow a “use-it-or-lose-it” calendar year model. After December 31st of each year,  unused benefits are unfortunately lost.  The best way to maximize your plan is to take full advantage of your preventive coverage. Almost all Delta Dental plans cover two routine cleanings, two oral exams, and a set of check-up X-rays at 100% with no out-of-pocket cost to you. By scheduling your bi-annual cleanings with us, you are preventing the possible need for more complex  procedures in the future.

Understanding Your "Deductible"

Your Deductible is the small amount you must pay out-of-pocket before Delta Dental begins paying for treatments such as fillings or crowns. For example, there are several types of filling materials that can be used to repair cavities, including tooth-colored fillings and amalgam fillings (NIH, n.d.). Delta Dental will typically cover fillings, regardless of the material chosen, and the decision is often at the discretion of one of our dentists. Notably, preventive cleanings usually waive this deductible. Your Annual Maximum is the absolute most Delta Dental will pay for your dental care within one full year. Our financial coordinators at Azalea Dental closely track your Annual Maximum. We will assist you in strategically pacing out your treatments to ensure you never accidentally overspend your coverage limits.

The Real Financial Impact: In-Network vs. Out-of-Network Dentists

When you visit an out-of-network dentist, you are subjected to “balance billing.” This means the dentist can charge you the difference between their standard rate and what your insurance will pay. Because Azalea Dental is in-network, we have legally agreed to Delta Dental’s discounted fee schedule. We write off the difference, so you do not incur this cost. In fact, 40% of total dental spending is out-of-pocket, making balance billing a particularly impactful issue for patients [2] (Nasseh et al)

Handling Dental Emergencies with Your Delta Dental Plan

If you experience a dental emergency, we recommend calling Azalea Dental immediately. Your Delta Dental plan typically covers emergency exams and the targeted X-rays needed to diagnose the problem. In fact, this often falls under your basic coverage tiers. We will get you out of pain first, stabilize your tooth, and then work with Delta Dental to map out the most cost-effective permanent solution for your smile.

FAQS

1. How can I find out my specific Delta Dental coverage before my visit?

The best way is to let us do the work for you. When you schedule your appointment, provide our front office team with your Delta Dental member information. Our insurance coordinator will perform a complimentary benefits check and can explain your coverage for planned treatments before your visit.

2. What happens if I need a procedure that Delta Dental only partially covers?

This is very common for major procedures like crowns or bridges.. We can then help you explore our flexible financing options to comfortably manage the remaining balance.

3. Does the Delta Dental plan cover cosmetic treatments?

Typically, dental insurance plans are designed to cover medically necessary treatments. Procedures that are purely cosmetic are usually not covered. However, some restorative treatments, such as a porcelain crown, provide both functional and aesthetic benefits.
